The Safe Cities' photography system uses fast accurate artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to control a digital SLR, enhance focus and framing, and provide automatic formatting to the FIND standard. The advanced software combined with a simple to use touchscreen (or keyboard/mouse/display) interface, allows operators to consistently capture FIND standard images with a few minutes training.

When comparing the Safe Cities' FIND Custody Photography System with traditional 'wet' photography systems or with old style non-AI digital capture, the new FIND CPS has several key advantages:

  • Safe Cities' FIND CPS is the first and currently only operational custody photography system that is fully compliant with FIND. According to the Police Product Review, April/May 2006, "The Isle of Man Constabulary is now operating a custody photography system which is the first in the country to fully comply with the National Standards set out by PITO".
  • The system enables Police/Security personnel to take quality-assured photographs after only a few minutes of training.
  • The user interface is simple and robust. Hardened kevlar versions are available if required.
  • Instant digital control and quality auditing of the image in real-time, means any adjustments in the positioning of the suspect or the status of the environment (lighting, shadows, colour cast etc.) can be made on the spot.
  • The system is simple and quick to install, and runs on standard, off-the-shelf hardware.

A key area of recording a suspect's image is the presence of any distinctive scars, marks or tattoos (SMT's). These are easily recorded in Safe Cities' FIND CPS. After the initial headshot has been taken, the operator uses their touchscreen to take a series of closeups of the tattooed areas in question, using Safe Cities' CPS-integrated SMT imaging software. These SMT images are stored alongside the main facial image(s).
