Case Studies An Operational Deployment "Working perfectly since February 2006" : The Safe Cities' FIND custody photography system installation in the Isle of Man Constabulary HQ, in Douglas, Isle of Man, is now producing consistent good quality images that require a minimum of operator input. The system is very robust and has been working without any downtime since February '06. Until the new system was installed, Isle of Man's custody photograph quality has depended on the photographic skill of custody officers and their willingness to spend valuable time trying to ensure the quality of photos taken with a handheld digital camera. Images of SMTs have been particularly problematical for reasons relating to focus, cropping and lighting. As with other Police Forces, the taking of custody photographs has been an ongoing problem since the invention of the camera. Only now with the advent of automatic cameras and intelligent software is this long running problem starting to be solved. "If you have got something in place that is so simple to use, you can achieve consistency and quality throughout the whole process with very little training input. It's the same difference between using Livescan and taking fingerprints manually." Det. Sgt. Grahame Bell, IOM Constabulary, Jane's Police Product Review, April/May 2006, page 32.
